What we do
Basically, community development entails the advancement of community involving a common sense of values, improvement in living standards, and human development among others. Community development is as old as humankind and proofs abound that at one point or the other, people have craved for and engaged in some forms of development to enable them to function more easily and effectively in society.
This is the general idea behind the establishment of BANIK COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION (BCDF), which was basically founded to guarantee access to the basic needs of the people, particularly the less-privileged in society.
Our areas of focus include care for the vulnerable aged people, educating the vulnerable children by way of scholarship, empowering physically challenged people, empowering the youths, distributing of food items to the needy, engaging in community development and many others.
Care for the Aged
Findings have shown that elderly persons, who have retired from the economic productive phase, are most vulnerable to experiencing economic hardship, particularly in an environment where there is no welfare system for older folks. In most cases, these set of citizens suffer total neglect.
In addressing this challenge, BCDF, is paying attention to the aged people within our reach and capacity by taking care of their medical needs, feeding, clothing and shelter.
Education of Vulnerable Children
BCDF also focuses on provision of high school and elementary school scholarships for children. Given the high percentage of minors not attending school, the foundation enables orphans and/or children at risk of poverty and social exclusion to have access to education.
These include children that usually live with a single parent, relatives or neighbors.
Empowerment of Youths & Widow
BCDF is also paying attention to the provision of skill acquisition to both educated and non-educated youths and widows and provision of empowerment materials.
The main goal is to empower youths with the knowledge, skills and values to live in dignity, build their lives and contribute to their societies.
Support to the Physical-Challenged
A set of population that require support from the government and well-meaning organisations are the people that are physically challenged. Realising that they also deserve to live a worthy live, BCDF is significantly focusing on assisting them through opportunities for skill acquisition, provision of empowerment materials and aid equipments like wheel chairs, earing aids, walking sticks etc to ensure that the live better.
