“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and other have greater thrust in them”.
These words of wisdom by William Shakespeare could best be used to describe Prince ADEBAYO ADELEKE, popularly called BANIK, an Iree-born philanthropist, a man with a humble background who has strived to achieve greatness, both in private and public life.
Though, born in the 60’s into the royal lineage of Laro-Oye Ruling House of Iree, Boripe Local Government area of Osun State, the greater thrust in him propelled his choice of a humble and public-spirited lifestyle which has automatically manifested, inevitably in politics, public service and private sector.
From his birth year at Ikole-Ekiti to his present stellar moment, the chronicle of his life has held many spellbound. He is a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Osun State between 2019 and 2022 during the administration of the former Governor Gboyega Oyetola. Before, during and after his appointment into the public service, BANIK continued to be a rallying point for youths, either in political or private lives, a bridge builder between young and old and a fence mender between the rich and the poor.
Having made his mark in the private sector, both home and abroad, Adeleke’s wish and quest to affect lives more, propelled him to join politics, where he has also made mark, built leaders and affected lives positively. He served as Secretary, Security and Election Committee, Boripe Local Government in 2011. He served as a member Campaign Committee ahead of the 2014 governorship election in Osun state for the re-election of the former Governor Rauf Aregbesola for second term.
He was a National Delegate at the APC National Convention held in Lagos in 2014, a convention that led to the emergence of President Muhamnmadu Buhari as the party’s Presidential candidate.
In 2015, the Coalition for Change, C4C, a political group whose main objective is to canvass support for President Muhammadu Buhari and promote his Next Level Agenda also appointed him as National Patron. He was equally a member of the Campaign Committee in Osun State in 2015, preparatory to the presidential poll.
In 2018, he was the Chairman, Governorship Campaign Committee for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin federal constituency at the gubernatorial poll that gave victory to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. In 2019, he was a National Delegate to the APC National Convention in Abuja ahead of the Presidential poll, after which he served as the Chairman, Presidential Campaign Committee for Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin federal constituency at the presidential election and elections of the immediate past members of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly. He was the Secretary, APC Campaign Committee for the 2022 governorship election and Chairman, State Security Committee. He was a member APC National Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Special Duties Committee and Chairman PCC Security Committee in Osun State. Bayo Adeleke is also a member of the APC Elders’ Council, Boripe Local Government.
His service in the political arena has not gone without paying dearly for it, as he has at different times been incarcerated by political power mongers of the PDP era in Osun State, who saw him as a threat politically, with a view to keeping him out of their ways.
Adeleke had served as a member, Board of Directors, National Film and Video Censors Board, Abuja.
A former member, Osun State Water Corporation Board and a former Commissioner, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
By his position as a commissioner in charge of Local Government administration, he was automatically a member of the Governor’s Think-tank during his service.
He proved to be an effective team player and a bridge builder between the government and the governed by identifying with all categories of people.
